Care Credit GE Money, GE Capital Retail Bank, GECRB 1 week late in payoff charged 42% of ORIGINAL Balance Internet |

GE Money / Care Credit - These people prey on you. 2 years ago my mom went in for eye surgery. We thought these guys were great, my mom is on social security, and could not afford to pay all at once - and with their help, she could have her surgery & take 2 years to pay - we borrowed $3300. We faithfully made payments over the last 2 years, bringing the balance down to $765. My mom had a bad fall, and we had to move her to a smaller, single story home - we were busily getting her settled, so we just made our regular payment on-line in October, without really looking at the bill. When I looked at it, I found that the "promotional rate" had expired 5 days previous. They had applied interest charges of $1387.28 --- that is 42% of the ORIGINAL $3300 - basically tripling the total due. I contacted them, to do a payoff, asking to negotiate this exteme interest charge, I explained the situation, and they were willing to reduce the interest by 1/2, assuming I paid the total the same day - which I did appreciate - but still seems like rape - more than $100 a day in interest ! I know that I am to blame for not looking at the bill earlier, and I fully expected to pay a late charge, or interest on the remaining principal - but REALLY - I paid it, so as not to incur any more charges for my mom, but after paying it - I am getting angrier and angrier, and losing sleep over it.... You would think there would be some sort of grace period for a payoff. SERIOUSLY CONSIDER any other options you may have before borrowing from these guys. |

Hi, I just read your post as I have 2 accounts with care credit. I don't understand how they charged you 42% of 3, 300 in interest charges. My account states the interest is 26.99% which I thought was horrid enough, but 42, that is ridiculous!
I am glad for you that they reduced it by half (which is 21% interest). Try to let it go and get some sleep. 21% isn't really that bad (of course zero would have been best), and it's not worth it to lose sleep and get angry as it sounds like you have enough going on looking after your mom.
Thank you so much for taking the time to warn people, and I will definitely keep my eye on the promotional ending period! |

I have a carecredit which helped when I was unemployed and needed emergency dental care. It was explained to me very clearly NEVER to be late on a payment. ever!!! It was worth it to be able to get the work I needed done and PAYOFF Early - even it if meant borrowing from family. It's good when you need it, but be very sure you will payoff promptly. |

Today I received a letter from GE Capitol Retail Bank saying they were unable to approve my request for a CareCredit account at this time stating that Trans Union was not able to verify my application information.
Up until today I have never heard of GECRB and seeing as I am a disabled veteran on low income and have not asked for credit anywhere for at least the last 10 years, this troubles me a bit. After reading a few reviews about them, I assume a lot of what they do is health care related. I find that amusing as I receive free medical care from the VA so have no need for any credit to help finance anything heath related. I guess I'm glad they don't want to do business with me. I'm guessing this is some kind of scam.
Just to ease my mind, I asked Trans Union to check into it and notified my credit union to watch for anything unusual.
I hope this helps anyone thinking of dealing with this company. After this, I wouldn't even if I needed help to save my life. |
