Cali Bamboo - Inferior Quality Experts - Product not appropriate for most climates - Lumboo Your delamination choice - Internet |

I purchased a bamboo fence in August 2010 with the understanding it was appropriate for our climate and would last at least 20 years. I purchased the required installation materials and also had to remove and discard the existing fence. Since the installation was late in the year and I was told to let it weather for 6 months before staining it (stain was supposed to be for cosmetic purposes only) I planned on staining it this spring. I understood it could get some mold (almost entire fence is now covered in mold) and would have to remove the mold and then stain it. I was told it would have to be stained about every 5 years in order to keep it from fading. I contacted Cali Bamboo on 3/6/2011 to let them know almost all of the Lumboo product (fence frame & posts) delaminated and split. The fence did not last even 6 months never mind 20 years. I included pictures showing the fence when installed and with the delamination. I told them it is either a manufacturing or quality issue and is also a safety issue. The fence is structurally unsound due to the numerous cracks and splits. There have been multiple emails since the initial complaint with no resolution. They first told me it could be fixed by staining but then agreed it could not be repaired by staining. The only way to repair the fence is to disassemble the entire fence and rebuild it since all of the Lumboo is faulty. I requested a complete refund of the cost of the fence and materials since I will have to purchase and install a different fence and discard this faulty fence. They offerred a refund of $971 when it has already cost me over $10K, just for materials. They are stating the issue is due to me not staining the wood. I was never told or given any documentation that stated there was a requirement to stain the Lumboo product or it would fall apart within a few months. I filed a complaint with the BBB but they did not receive a response. |
