Budget Rent-a-Car Budget eToll is a Ripoff! I was Charged $16.50 for a single, $1.50 toll in Florida!! Internet |

Budget ripped me off by charging a $15 fee on top of a single, $1.50 toll from the Orlando Airport. Budget failed to explain this eToll "service" to me at the time of renting the car. If Budget fails to respond constructively to the email complaint I sent to them, then I'll never rent from them again!! |

Budget and their E-Toll partner are both criminals, they whack you a "convenience" fee (whose????) for each day you have the car, and we typically rent for weeks at a time, so finding yourself on a toll road that won't take cash is highway robbery. I had a $3.65 toll charge balloon to $23.65 because I had the car for two weeks and only incurred charges for a toll road on 1 day.
When I complained about it to Budget I was told "It's our policy" and "That's the cost of doing business, pass it on to your customers..." If I screwed my customers like Budget does to theirs, I wouldn't have any.
Oh yeah...also heard "Well, everyone is doing it..." Yeah, just like the airlines, everyone charges bag fees EXCEPT Southwest, and whose planes are full and which airline is consistently making a profit?
Budget has now successfully sucked the life out of any enjoyment in doing business with them. Oh yeah, the free satellite radio you enjoyed, is now $4.95 a day. |

I rented a car from Budget not knowing about the transponder in the car. I cam up to the Airport toll booth and PAYED!!! $1.00 in cash and to my surprise got a bill for $6.00 for a toll charge. I called both Budget nd The express toll company. The express toll company said they never sent budget a bill.
I want my $6.00 back I don't have time to go back and forth over this I work 12 hours a day. |

This is scam that Budget and Avis is doing. They charged me even if I used my own EZpass and in spite of showing the proof they argue that some charges were not to refunded. Also they inflate to 5 times the regular charges. As a proof of my receipt they have sent me a charge showing that was stamped 5 hours after I returned the car.
Please this is forced OPT In position and be AWARE that you need be careful about getting ripped off by this SCAM.

How I defeated Budget E-Toll fraud.
I rented a car from Budget at Fort Lauderdale airport in December 2011 and got into the same scam.
The rep told me neither about that SunPass device nor about extra charges associated with it.
Since I didn't know about that "very convenient service", I paid cash at toll booths.
Back home I found that some E-Toll crook company charged my credit card by $23.
To get money back:
1. I called my credit card and requested a Dispute Form for that charge.
2. I wrote a paper letter (not e-mail) to Budget Headquarters:
Avis Budget Car Rental, LLC
6 Sylvan Way
Parsippany, NJ 07054
or
Avis Budget Group, Inc.
4500 South 129th East Ave
PO Box 699000
Tulsa, OK 74169-9000
In the letter, I explained that it was a fraud, that I didn't signed up for that extra service and even was not aware about it.
As a result, credit card was refunded in the full stolen amount of $23. The whole story took about 4 weeks and couple post stamps.

We also were victims of this scam. Inside the Budget Rent-a-Car the transponder is incased in a box that reads "to ACTIVATE pull this tab." We did NOT activate it, but brought our own transponder thinking that there would be possible fees attached to the tolls if we used the one in the rental car. We ended up being correct.
Even though we did not touch the transponder box, Budget and E-ZPass charged us for the toll!! Our transponder was not charged ironically even though it was sitting on the dash of the vehicle. WHAT A SCAM! We ended up having our credit card charged the tolls PLUS FEES that Budget tagged on.
When we called about it Budget simply said that is was in the car, so it was going to charge no matter what. THEN WHY DOES THE TRANSPONDER INSIDE THE CAR SAY "TO ACTIVATE PULL THIS TAB"???
WHAT A SCAM!!
We went through 2 tolls - $1.50 each and then Budget tagged on an extra $14.75 FEE.
WHAT A RIPOFF.
I smell a class-action lawsuit if enough people who've experienced this will join in. This is completely illegal. |

Also I forgot to mention that when we called Budget that they said the reason for the fees was that the transponder wasn't activated and photos were taken of the vehicle's license plate.
That is complete BS - don't fall for it!! When the EZPass reads the transponder, the light turns green and it lets you through. If it doesn't read it, the light stays red and there is a loud horn blast sound and THEN a picture is taken of the license plate.
So they lied. Every time we went through a toll the light turned green signaling that the transponder (we thought it was OURS since it was sitting on the dash!) had been picked up and the toll charged.
What a SCAM!! #budgetrentacartransponderscam |
