I live in Inverness,Florida and was looking to start a small business out of my home.I came up with a name for my company and got a fictitious name with the state to do business as DBA.I then wanted to get a website for my company and I had a name chosen for the domain and checked to see if it was available and it was.(Looking back now I should have purchased it right then and there).I then went on the internet to look for a local business to help me create a website.I found this company called Boomtown Media,Inc.The owner of this company is Mathew Baillargeon and they are located in Dunnellon,Florida.I called and left a message and he returned my phone call the next day.I went to his office and we discussed what I wanted to have done and we agreed to have him build me a website.I told him that I had a domain name chosen that was the same as my company and that I wanted to purchase the domain myself and have ownership of it and that I needed him to just build the website for me.He said that was not a problem and we agreed for him to do the work for $1,200.He requested to have $600.00 for a deposit and the balance would be paid when the website was completed.I paid him and he asked me for the domain name and I gave it to him.I called him a few days later to get an update and he said that it would be completed the next day.I met him the next day and he showed me the website and I noticed the spelling of my business was wrong on the home page banner and he said that could be easily corrected. He then gave me an invoice that had a balance of $ 1,175.00.I told him that the amount was wrong and he said he had to purchase the domain and that he also had to market it as well.I was in shock.I told him that I never wanted the website marketed and only to have it designed and we agreed to $1,200.He then got angry and said that was what I owed and to pay him or he would keep the website.I told him that was incorrect and that I only owed him $600.00 and that I would get someone else to build it.He then said I wish you and them luck because he owned the domain name now.I was furious, this guy hijacked my domain name and also bought the .net so I couldn't do anything.I already had business cards,a magnet for my vehicle and invoices made with the domain on them and now they were no good at all. What should have cost only $1,200 was now going to cost me $1,775.00.I really felt betrayed. He was trying to get $575.00 more then what I owed him.The conclusion to this matter is that I never paid him the balance that he tried to swindle out of me and had to start all over again including registering a new fictitious name.To make matters worse he took my old domain name and forwarded it to his own website.Anyone who reads this please be aware of this company, owner and their deceptive practices. |
