I met Becky Acord at a NECCA Equine event in July. All throughout the event it was announced that the horses purchased through this event would have a 30 day guarantee. We thought that was perfect. My husband & I were looking for a pair of family-safe beginner trail horses. Becky sold us 2 horses that day and told us they were perfectly trained,
beginner safe trail horses. She said she would deliver them when it was convenient for us. We told her we were going on vacation and then needed another week to get our fencing ready. When we go back from vacation there were frantic messages on our answering machine from Becky looking to deliver the horses as she was going on vacation and couldn't possibly afford to have someone feed and take care of them for an extra week. We rushed the fencing and agreed to take the horses a week early. She then claimed she never agreed to deliver them and we needed to pay for the transporation. After much arguing, she agreed to transport. WHen the horses arrived, they did not have their coggins papers which is a requirement through the state of Mass.
Shortly after the horses arrived we determined that the young horse was too much for us to handle and an intermediate rider was necessary for this horse. It had very poor ground manners and likes to bite - needless to say it was not safe for us to get on or for my 3 year old son to be around. I began calling and emailing Becky that I needed the coggins tests and that I wanted to exchange this horse for another more suitable for our situation. I did talk to Becky once and she agreed to exchange the horse and then stopped returning my calls and emails. I did finally get in touch with her on my ride down to look at other horses she had available (she did not recognize my cell no.) and I was told she did not have anything to "even-trade" me. I told her I would not give her another penny as I already paid her too much for the horses I received but would continue the drive down so I could pick up my coggins paperwork that was necessary. I was informed that she did not have it and gave all of the paperwork to the transporter. We got in touch with the transporter and was told they gave us everything that was given to them. Please note it is not legal to sell or transport horses in this state without coggins tests. If you have this issue with Becky please get in touch with the Mass Dept of Agricultural Resources. We did receive 1 good horse that appears to be what we were looking for however he is missing the transfer papers and does have a bad cribbing habit. I would not reccommend anyone buy a horse from Becky Acord ever. |

| I was at that event. There was never a 30 guarantee on any horses. They were not even sold through the event. They were sold privately there. This lady is completely crazy and way off. Maybe you should check the horses first to be sure they are suitable. Most people do. I do remember the 2 you had gotten. They stood out there as they were the 2 fanciest and nicest ones there. They were both point earning show horses. I remember them well. I also remember one being announced as a cribber. Oh, why would anyone get a show horse for a trail horse for what sounds like an inexperienced family????? Show horses and trail horses are not often one in the same. Also, maybe try to NOT hand feed horses if they are getting nippy. I wish I was fortunate enough to have gotten those horses. Lucky people do not even know they are lucky. |
