Wow. I never really thought I'd be writing one of these reports, but here we are. I can't believe companies like this are still in business. Anyways, here's the real short and skinny of what happened, from my point of view: 1. Ordered a book for $5.95 2. Get a confirm email saying "Thanks, you're awesome/etc" 3. Shortly thereafter, get an email saying, "Your book is on backorder..." Now, if that was it, and no money exchanges hands, fine. So be it. Sh%# happens, books come and go, this isn't the first time I've had something HOWEVER, here's what the credit card statement shows: 1/4/11 - $1.00 2/15/11 - $9.95 3/15/11 - $9.95 When I go back into my "Account" at the website, there are 2 things. First thing is that it says my ORDER IS CANCELLED ?!?!? Never got the email on that one. The second thing is that there is some BS about me being signed up for a membership (this is under the payments tab). I never signed up for a membership. And looking at their BS website, I can't for the life of me figure out WHAT a membership would get me... free massages? self esteem? The best part is though, when I try and exit the website, this little pop up comes up that says (something to this affect): "WAIT!.... KAREN our virtual operator wants to talk to you..." like those scammy MLM/high pressure outfits use. The only thing I can figure out is that these BS operators do a little test charge of $1, see if you notice, and then charge you $9.95 for months on end. You only typically have the last 60 days to contest charges with you credit card, so if they ding you for 12 months, well, I'm sorry, but you might have just bought 10 months worth of self esteem service. The shame about the whole darn thing is that 1. The Florida Attorney General hasn't shut their a** down 2. I'm wasting my time having to do this damage control 3. I'll probably have to get a new credit card number. I hate re-entering all that crap in the Amazon, etc But anyways, it's been said that people continue to get ripped off by seeing evil and doing nothing about it. So there. I put my story here. And if you buy something from discountbooksales.com after reading this, you're a moron. And should immediately give control of your finances to a competent adult. IF, you've bought something from there and are getting dinged every month for $9.95, write a letter to your credit card company saying you got duped. It's cool. Just tell em the story like I just told you. |
