I received a phone call from a lady named Nancy P (who had a foreign accent that I couldn't quite make out) from Baker Mckenzie at work. She lefted a message on my voicemail, stating that this was a legal matter and my urgency was needed. I returned the call and asked for her, but this Adam Jones guy (who sounded Indian or Iranian), accepted the call and said that he works with her. He relaid more legal jargin to me as did the lady. He stated that this was a Cash Advance payday loan situation, and that my immediate attention, to take care of this was of urgency also. He stated that I owed roughly $453.00. I do remember taking out a loan about 6 or 7 years ago and that I believe it was taken care of. He asked how would I be taking care of this matter and that it had to be done today or on Friday morning, their lawyers will be presenting this to the judge and I will then be subjected to court cost, attorney fees and etc. He asked for my credit card information. I stated that if I owe it I will take care of it, but I need time, because I wasn't given enough information and haven't received any notices and such. He stated that he understood that and that was irrelevant, because I did take out the loan. He finally agreed on a 100.00 to be sent that day, but he will call me to give me the information on where and how to send it. I stated that I will call back after work and was told not to call there he will call me. I felt that very strange. I got home I in fact called him and he stated that he will call me today and give me the information, but he was being very descret about it. I received the call and was told to wire the money via moneygram and when I go to do it, call him and he will inform me of where to send it. I thought about it and by the grace of God I called the number back and kept getting a busy signal. I proceeded after that and looked up the area code 760 on the website and was given the location of California. I called Baker Mckenzie and gave the name to the lady who answered the phone and relaid the name of Adam Jones/Nancy P to her and was told that there was no such person working there with those names. She informed me that it sounded like a scam and informed me to report this to my local police department. I will do so later on today. |
