AVON Products Inc
AVON Products Inc. AVON'S poor business model contributes to all reps. lack of customers NEW YORK, New York
18th of Jan, 2011 by User814503
I have been and AVON sales representative since August 2010 and I have learned quickly that AVON products are very hard to sell. The public is not clamoring, to buy any of the products and if anyone signs up to be a representative, they better have at least 30 friends, family and co-workers who are eager to buy from them or the business will fail. I have a background in marketing and sales and I applied my sales knowledge to AVON and I learned that (although too late) that most people who sign up with AVON are doomed to fail and lose money. The problem is with the AVON business model. AVON focuses more on recruiting new AVON reps than it does on building a demand in the marketplace for their products. Unlike all the other cosmetics companies, AVON does not advertise in women's magazines or on television to make the products irresistible to women - like Loreal does, or even Cover Girl. Most people haven't even heard of Mark either. AVON is still riding on the back of the work the old AVON ladies did back in the 60's and the company is expecting us, the lowly AVON reps to build demand by distributing catalogs at our expense. This is impossible to do. In order for a rep's business to be successful, the public needs to be breaking down the door to get to the rep's business so they can order products. The public should be happy to wait for products because AVON products are worth waiting for. As it stands now, why should anyone have to wait two weeks for a tube of mascara? And what is this business about allowing some reps to open up AVON stores? Why would a company work to under cut their own exclusive sales agents by allowing people to open stores? The products should not be available at the drop of a hat like that. Amway doesn't have stores, Herbalifedoesn't have stores, Mary Kaye doesn't have stores. What is wrong with AVON that it should undercut the sales reps. by allowing stores and kiosks. Another thing that AVON does wrong is focus on recruiting instead of focus on selling products. They try to increase sales by selling to the new reps and the new reps sign-ups. This is madness. No wonder so many reps quit. And finally how dare AVON sell directly to the public without even making the prospective customer go through a representative, or assigning the order to a rep in their area weather the customer likes it or not. It is crystal clear that AVON doesn't care about anything other than making money at any cost. The company doesn't care about their reps, they are not a company for women, AVON is a company for suckers and until AVON changes it's ways, it will continue to lose sales and destroy it's good name.
