AVOID AT ALL COSTS: DISREPUTABLE AND CAUSED DAMAGESheer incompetence or active maliciousness?I used to be a loyal Pepboys customer, but this PepBoys will rip you off! A repair that should have cost less than $600 and one day ended up costing me over $1200 and several days of frustration. The Pepboys not only damaged my car in the repair, but they denied the damage, and refused to return my car unless I signed a statement essentially saying I couldn't sue.I'd always used Pepboys in Chicago, and so upon moving to Philadelphia, I found a Pepboys when I needed to have my shocks replaced and my car aligned. I purchased OEM shocks and took it to a local Pepboys to have it installed. They performed the replacement and alignment for $650 and that's when my problems started. My ABS brake light came on immediately after the repair. When I called the PepBoys, they said they had nothing to do with ABS light. After a simple google search I found the cause: the Toyota Service Board (TSB) put out an annoucenment letting people know the sensors must be removed from the rear before changing the struts. If this is not done then the weight of the drum or disc brakes will pull on the wire and break the wire internal to the shielding causing the ABS light to go on. I called the manager and explained this and he denied removing sensors before replacing struts was standard practice saying, "We never remove the sensors when changing the struts." I was dumbfounded at this but I dropped the car off again and rented a car. After 2 days and $130 in rental car costs, Pepboys said nothing was wrong. I then took my car to another repair shop and they immediately diagnosed the problem as the one I had found online. This repair shop said that that particular Pepboys has a reputation for poor work and claiming work they never do (which would explain why my car still veered toward the right). They were even able to name the repairman. I was horrified as I realized Pepboys had ripped me off.I took the car back to the Pepboys, explained the diagnosis, and they still refused any responsibility. I finally convinced them to change at least the drivers' side ABS sensor and hoped that would resolve the problem. They claimed to fix it gave me the old sensor and it was cracked. This contradicted their earlier claim that they couldn't find any problems. They then made me sign a statement that I woulnd't hold them accountable for any more repairs before they would give me back my keys. The ABS light was still on. A few days later, the splash guard of my wheel came off while I was driving. This was most likely Pepboy's fault as well since they had to remove the splash guard to replace the struts.I took my car back to the other repair shop that did the diagnosis and changed out the rear passenger side ABS sensor and replaced the splash guard for another $337. The light finally went off.So in summary, Pepboys:- Replaced struts for $575- Potentially lied about aligning my car, charging $75- Damaged TWO ABS sensors which I had to replace for $337- Took two days to lie about my sensors not being damaged costing $130 in rental car fees- Destroyed my splash guard which I had to get reattached- Refused to give my car back unless I signed a statement releasing them from responsibilityI am posting this online, reporting this to 1-800-Pepboys (which is worthless), and the Better Business Bureau. I have all my receipts to prove what happened and am not exaggerating. This PepBoys has caused me so much headache. I wish they were only incompetent.
