Auto By Rent conned us into an unsafe vehicle (no emergency brakes) and one that was damaged and then blamed us Joplin, Missouri |

My daughter and I went in and discussed at length the program they offered. We were told they went over their vehicles with specialized mechanics. Three weeks after renting the vehicle, my daughter was driving at 11pm from work when the vehicle sounded as tho there was a flat. There was no flat and a police officer drove her home. We had a mechanic look and listen to the vehicle. Upon replacing the CV Axle ($300), he stated there had been a lot of work done to the front end. Replacement of the CV Axle did not fix the problem. I contacted Auto by Rent and talked with Andrew (again). We took it to the mechanic they use in Joplin (Dairan's Towing). He replaced the ball bearings in the front. He also discovered the drive shaft had been bent and stated All the work they did was most likely looking for the problem I fixed. He had to take out the drive shafter (no 4 wheel drive) and was looking for another. Andrew with Auto by Rent tried telling me we had hit something and that was how the drive shaft was bent and it would be covered under our insurance. I had questioned Ericka extensively and she had not hit anything. She is the only person that drives that vehicle. I had someone else look at the vehicle and they stated something about a pin being wrong and that could have caused the drive shaft to be bent and temporarily beng able to drive the vehicle. The car, when parked, rolled out in to the street. We took it back and he put the pin as far as it could go. He told us to make sure we put the emergency brake on the vehicle. The car still rolled, almost hitting another car. We took it back and he discovered there was no emergency brake system in the vehicle. Upon calling Andrew (again, I called about 30 times) he stated he would have to take the car to Springfield. When that finally happened, he stated that it was our fault we had to have hit something to make the drive shaft bent. I told him that I had had 3 mechanics look at the vehicle one of them was theirs and they all stated this vehicle had major problems Before we purchased it. The owners, never called us, never acknowledged us. They simply do not care who they scam. |
