A hail storm blew thru my town back in early April, 2011. l have full coverage on my car and filed my claim the next day with my insurace company, Assurance Ammerica. lt took 2 WEEKS just to get an estimate, during which time I was having to borrow a car from my father. Over the next month, I called 3 times to find out what was happening with my claim, never did I ever get to talk to my adjuster directly. However, on the third call I was told there was damage that wouldn't be covered and either my adjuster or her manager would call me to discuss it. l own a convertible and my only assumption was they weren't covering my top, which had 5 fist-sized holes due to hail. No call came, but l did get a check for the damage, but it was for only $1400. They weren't covering my top... or my windshield, or several other dents and damages. l called again and couldn't get any answer about why they weren't being covered. l took my car to a different body shop, one l know and have a proffessional relationship with. They had their hail damage expert look over my car and confirmed l'd need 3 times the money to bring my car back to it's pre-storm condition. The body shop filed a supplemental, in which Assurance responded by being rude to the body shop estimator. The following day, one of their reps called my wife (who's primary on our issurance) and tried to goad her into an argument about what would and wouldn't be covered. Luckily, my wife was calm with them and didn't give in. A week later, Assurance approved another $1000 to repair my car, but still not enough to get half the damage fixed and l'm currently trying to retain a lawyer. l've been with Assurance for over 8 years and have only filed 2 claims, but even if I was a new customer, no one should have to go thru this when the damage wasn't anyone's fault. |
