We purchased this "insurance" for our new dog. We'd never had pet insurance before but figured it would be a good investment since, should she have an accident or illness, we did not want to have to borrow money from family or friends or clean out our savings. We've been paying an exorbitant premium every month (MORE than what my health insurance costs!) As luck would have it, she had an accident at the local dog park and injured her leg. I submitted the claim for the initial emergency vet visit where they did blood tests, did some X-rays and prescribed medicine for pain and swelling. They said she would probably need a surgery. The next day I filed the paperwork for the claim of $376. It took them over two weeks to "process" the claim and when they finished they said they would not pay anything on the claim as it was an "excluded" injury. When I signed up for their insurance I specifically asked their representative about such injuries and were assured that ASPCA was the only company that covered these types of injuries as well as dental care, etc. Now our dog needs surgery to repair her leg. This is not a genetic problem but strictly the result of an accident. Yet, ASPCA has assured us that we won't see a penny in recompense. We could have put the huge premiums they charge into a savings account and at least paid for HALF of the surgery outright. Now they have our money and we are left with the bills. We're having to wipe out our saving and checking accounts to pay for this surgery. We'd built up enough money that we were feeling somewhat safe in these dire economic times. ASPCA has shot that completely by bilking us of hundreds of dollars in premiums and never paying a cent for any treatment for our pet. Next week when we close out our entire savings account and try to live to the next paycheck on $100 I'll be thinking of ASPCA and the hundreds of dollars they have stolen from us for their scam insurance. Stay away from ASPCA insurance. They'll take your money and run leaving you with the bills for the vet as well as a hundreds or thousands of dollars poorer because of their premiums! |
