Argosy University Online Fraudulent, Misleading, RIPOFF Internet |

I signed up to receive further information from Argosy University at the beginning of October in 2010. This was my first time attending college, however I was a single mom and was looking to attend online so I could continue to work and take care of my children. They basically called me and put me through the enrollment process at that time and then helped me file my fafsa. It all seemed really great and they even got me in by the end of the month. Everything seemed to be going fine but they pretty much decided what classes I took and when I took them, which I really didn't like but I was told that I had to take certain classes first and then I could choose my own later. The work seemed a little too easy though and that started to worry me. Then to make matters worse they never informed me that I could take an accuplacer test to test out of the "review" math and english courses and when I found out about them on my own and asked about taking them they said it was too late...so they basically made me waste a bunch of money on remedial classes I did not need. (I later took a different placement test and was informed that I tested extremely high on both math and english, So Im not just saying I didn't need review courses) This is just the beginning, because around the time I was due to begin my June class I had too much going on in my life, I was moving, I was working 50+ hours a week with a 2 hour commute, and I have 2 children and school was just something I really wanted to get through but I needed a break to settle. I figured I could save up money to help pay bills so when fall courses started I could return and reduce my work hours...considering that tuition was so expensive I really didn't get a refund. When I explained the situation to them I was BERATED and told that school was not important to me and I must not care about my children's future and then they told me to call the financial aid department and discuss the monetary ramifications from dropping the next class. I called and they would not tell me what would happen just that "I may owe some money to the university" but they refused to give me any estimate or calculation, but I had to drop my classes to avoid owing money for them. I dropped them prior to class starting but when they sent me a calculation a few weeks later they charged me some money for those classes plus the previous class I took and told me I owe them almost 1,900!! Then they were so mad that they had to cancel my student loans that they lied to my lender about when I withdrew from school in order to give me less of a grace period. Then to make matters worse they promptly began to harrass me and call me multiple times a day to collect payment on the money they claim I owe them and then began sending me emails saying that if I returned to their school they would forgive my debt to them. I really didn't believe I owed them this money so I printed out all the financial records and it seems as though they have altered those too because it shows 23,000 in charges for 2 semesters, but only 10,600 in financial aid, which even if you add it up yourself it does not come out to the same amounts they are showing. They also did not cancel my entire loans or pell grant, they returned some of the money but not all. And now that I look back they also never asked my permission to take out the full 9,500 in loans they just had me sign the promissory note giving them permission to obtain loans on my behalf and took out how much they pleased. I suggest NO ONE go to this school ever. They say whatever they have to say to get you to go to their school and they act like they care that you're trying to better yourself but all you are worth is the aid money they can try to steal and embezzle!!! |
