APRIL PECK
April Peck, Clean Beez Maid Service Bad Payroll Checks, Missing Wages, Sub-par Cleaning Work, Phoenix, Arizona
26th of Mar, 2011 by User716770
April Peck, 39, has owned a cleaning service by the name of Clean Beez since 2010. My roommate and I replaced two people she had recently let go for undisclosed reasons, but about a week and a half later, she hired one of the two people back, and the next day told me she didn't need four people cleaning a house, and to take the day off. The following Monday, as we were finishing our first house, a technician came to clean the carpets, I was exasperated, having just finished the floors, and he was tracking dirt and footprints all over them, meaning I'd have to do them again, and that would cost us time and money on other job sites. However, April told me "once your job is done, anyone who makes a new mess is responsible for cleaning it up themselves" which I thought was very fair and reasonable of her. The following week, April went out of town, and we had a job site in Peoria to do. I had just finished the floors, and possible renters, who were not supposed to be there without the Realtor, decided to come and walk through. We informed them that they couldn't be there without the Realtor, and that we had just done the floors, and they proceeded to walk through anyway. Remembering what April said, we finished up the house and left after they left. That night, which was a Monday, April informed my roommate and best friend, that she was firing me on Wednesday. My roommate asked if she could give me a heads up so that I could start looking for another job. April said, "no, you don't tell her anything. I will deal with it on Wednesday." Monday night I was fired. Tuesday came, and when my roommate came home from work, she told me that April wasn't sure if I was fired. Wednesday, my roommate came home and asked if I wanted to work the next day. The fickleness of her decisions was a huge red flag to me, but I went back. This past week, April gave my roommate and I several days off, and told us we could pick up our paychecks at noon. We went to pick them up, and surprise! (not) they weren't there. She would not answer our phone calls or text messages asking where the checks were for several hours, and then finally texted us back, informing us that she would not have the funds until 5 o'clock. Around 5, she texted us telling us that only I could cash my check, because she didn't have enough money in her bank account to cover my roommate's check, even though she'd just hired a new person in that same week. We attempted to call her, and she sent the call to voicemail. We retrieved the checks, and found that she listed me as having 30 hours in two weeks. We work 8-5, Monday-Friday, and even with the days off that she gave me, I worked more than 30 hours in two weeks' time. My paycheck was about 250 dollars short. As of today, Monday, at 10am, My roommate still has not been able to cash her check. This morning when we were heading to work, we got a call from April's phone. It was her mother, who informed us that "April doesn't want you working for her anymore." As it turns out, on either Monday or Tuesday of last week, April went through my purse, and claimed to have come across my anxiety medicine, though I am positive I didn't have it that day, but had mentioned it to her in passing on a previous date that I use it, and she seemed to have no qualms whatsoever. This woman lacks professionalism on many levels, and is a very two-faced, unstable individual. She not only withholds wages, but when you wake up to go to work in the morning, you really never know if you're going to have a job or not. If April is in a bad mood that day, she may just find a passive aggressive reason to fire you. As a consumer, I wouldn't do business with April Peck or Clean Beez for any reason. Her website is very misleading in terms of the size and efficiency/organization of her company. Often jobs are done at sub-par level, as long as she sees it fit. As an employee, I would avoid working for Clean Beez, or for April Peck, if at all possible. In this economy, I understand a job is a job, but with the way she runs her business, your nine hours a day is honestly better spent job hunting than working for her.
