Andy Ross Lead Consortium, The Insurance Authority Deceitful, Lies and Non-payment for Work Las Vegas, Nevada
18th of Jan, 2013 by User871009
In August 2012, I signed on to sell dental insurance for the Insurance Authority via the phone and internet. I was recruited through Craig's list. I signed up as a remote agent and was immediately told that I needed to be licensed in at least 3 states, so I spent the extra money to become licensed in 2 more states, one which required fingerprinting, which was an added cost. We were given leads through a dialer, and most of the leads were acquired through robo dialing which resulted in poor quality leads and a lot of angry people. Andy Ross, the head of the agency required us to be on a company call every Monday where he would ramble on and on about how lucky we were to be able to work at home. He also told us we could make 100k or even 250k a year if we put in the hours while selling Assurant dental insurance through his lead program. He often compared the ease of the job to "flipping burgers". When I first signed on we were told we should work at least 25 hours per week. Then every week at the meeting, Andy would increase the hours saying things like "to heck with 100k, you could make $250K. Then, they switched their lead program to a "better lead" including customers who would be calling in from an ad they saw along with telemarketers screening the leads for us agents. When this happened, Andy would ramble on about how "it was going to be better" and that the agents who put in the most hours would be rewarded with the warm, telemarketer pre-screened leads as opposed to the outbound, cold leads on the dialer. Well this lasted all of 2 weeks before we were told that they needed to switch from the Assurant Dental policies we were selling to different carriers because they were essentially "in the hole" with Assurant, due to charge backs. Andy told us in the meetings to sit tight while they were making this transition, and that we would be paid as soon as we started working again. Essentially, they were holding our commissions which were paid 12 months in advance because they didn't know how many charge backs there would be. But Andy promised us that as soon as we started working again selling different products/carriers, they would pay us for the work we had already done. Well, after 2+ weeks of waiting we never heard from this guy again. Essentially, after telling us in what would be his last, famous Monday morning meeting that "he hoped that we weren't so foolish as to be soley counting on this job with him for our family income", and that he had to "sacrifice his family vacation" due to the charge backs with Assurant", he disappeared. He essentially "slid out the back door" by not notifying the agents that he was closing. We all tried to dial into the company meeting call on Monday 12/10/12 only to be told by a recording that the code we entered was no longer valid. I and others tried to contact Andy, Val and Matt by phone and email, but we never heard from any of them, ever again. Seriously, this guy encouraged us agents to put in as many hours as we could to be rewarded with "warm" incoming leads and then chastises us for counting on that pay to feed our families? I, as many other agents, didn't have time to work anywhere else because I was putting all my time in selling insurance for his agency with the belief that I would be getting paid a great commission check for all the sales I'd be making for my effort. And I didn't really care that he couldn't afford a "vacation" blah, blah, blah, when we couldn't afford to pay our bills without the money we were promised. Andy Ross, Val Adams, and Matt Wynn were the folks running this sham of a company. If you hear their names, run in the other direction. Especially Andy Ross who apparently does not know how to run an agency and keeps making horrible business decisions - which is likely the reason for the various company names he has used for his businesses. As of the writing of this report, I still have not heard from any of them and have never received my commissions.
