American Residential Law Group ARLG Scammed me out of $2,550 for a loan modification in Fort Lauderdale, Florida |

In September of 2010 after receiving a referral from a local CPA I contacted Brandon Brotsky at American Residential Law Group for assistance with a modification, short sale or foreclosure of my residence. I was concerned with being scammed and only worked with this company because they were referred to me. After several phone conversations I requested an onsite meeting at their office before proceeding any further. After reading of their success stories online and meeting with them in their office I felt comfortable hiring them to represent me. It was a great sense of relief to know that I may finally receive some assistance with my distressed property.
After paying ARLG $2,550 and providing them with all of the requested documentation (pay stubs, tax forms, bank statements, etc.) I received several emails stating my case was moving between various departments. I was told in writing I would be receiving regular updates (IIRC every 10 days). After the communications the first couple of weeks I didn't hear anything. I reached out to my assigned "Mitigation Specialist", Jacqueline Betancourt with no response. After several failed attempts I contacted Brandon to complain. He quickly responded apologizing for the lack of communication and I received a response from Jacqueline as well. I was told my case was in progress and to be patient. This pattern continued until I called their office in early December when I spoke with Nicole Miller. She informed me that Jacqueline was incompetent and had not done anything with my case. She said Jacqueline had been fired and that she (Nicole) would now be handling my case with high priority. Nicole asked for updated bank statements (which I immediately provided) and apologized for the poor service thus far while assuring me she would handle my case properly. I contacted Nicole again on December 22nd via email seeking an update on my case. I received no reply. On January 6th I left her a voicemail seeking an update. I received no reply. I left another voicemail on January 7th and received no reply. I sent an email to Brandon and Nicole to communicate my frustration with their poor service. I immediately received a response from ARLG's mail server saying Brandon was no longer an employee of the company. At this point I feared the worst and began googling the firm. I was now finding complaints on message boards and It sickens me that there are sizeable companies that are taking advantage of distressed homeowners. I am not sure what recourse I have at this point. I have filed a complaint with the Southeast Florida BBB and encourage others to do the same. If anything I want to warn others not to make the same mistake. I would love to see this company prosecuted and I am willing to cooperate in any way possible. I have all of my email correspondences saved along with the contract I signed for their services. Please contact me if anything can or will be done. |
