Istarted my weight lost journey in October 2008 at Curves, lost 30lbs and was doing wonderful until I hit a plateau.I thought a gym with more weight machines would help me finish my weight loss and get my down the last 20lbs.I went to ABW in May 2009 and got a great deal on a membership and personal trainer. I went over with the personal trainer that I had a lot of prior existing back problems and needed to be careful of that, he acknowledge this (though I did not think to get it in writing) and said that we would make sure to help improve the condition of my back. This was also in part why I started working out.Strengthening your core muscles helps improve back pain which he only did once, the initial consultation when trying to sign me up for PT.However, I guess he had a personal hatred of cankles and anytime I saw him, even though you're suppose to let muscle groups rest for 72hrs, he always worked hard on my lower body. He had me doing jump lounges even though I complained of the pain. It's working when it hurts Unfortunately, being the first time I've worked out in my life, didn't know any better.I may have lost 10lbs that month, but I never stepped foot in that gym again. I ended up in the ER and have been in pain management ever since this event (almost 2 years!). Every doctor I have seen says that even a person in top shape should NEVER do jump lounges. There is never a reason to put that much stress on your joints and body. Obviously, this place is not trained properly in how to train their clientele without harming them.
I had to demand my membership be cancelled, fax ER diagnoses to prove medical reason for cancellation and then was billed ANY WAY for the gym membership.Apparently the PT wasn't intelligent enough to cancel both and they refused to reimburse me the month of June I was charged for when I didn't even step foot and had already cancelled the PT!
I have been contact in the last 2 months several times by the Gym's manager, Amber, to rejoin. Why a year and half later they are contacting me is beyond me.I do not know how many times I need to tell her to never call me and why! Horrible, Horrible gym with horrible training!
You have ruined my life at 24 (when it happened)!! Thank for you!
