Buyers Beware. Allstate Insurance has stooped to the "lowest of lowest" of sales gimmicks and buyers need to be aware.
While shopping for Insurance for new vehicle, I check a dozen of major brand Ins. cos and Allstate provided a great price for applicable coverage. So I went through the online process, paid 6 month premium "up front" and directly from my bank. Instant payment. (Note: did this 12 days in advance of Policy becoming active) 3 days before policy to go in effect, I receive a letter stating they need renewal documents from my current Ins. Co., copy of my current policy,proof of home ownership, copy of my current personal injury coverage. And I have 7 days and this will not guarantee my original quote will apply.
Now in 30 years of driving I've been covered by 2 Insurance companies and have had NO lapses of coverage.
After getting run-around from Allstates' "Customer Info Center" (800-787-0600), I contacted a supervisor and requested they cancel my policy and refund prior payment. The quote " well it will be mailed out and you should see it in 7-10 days". Which is another violation of Minnesota Insurance regulations.
After contacting State of Minnesota AGs office, they concur this is "Bait & Switch" and AG office has dozens of similar complaints - all ALLSTATE. I hope no-one else falls for this unscrupulous sales tactic.

My daughter had an accident Jan.12/2012, not at fault. She obtained plate info, drivers permit, name and insurance info. Allstate not once advised for police to be involved, adjuster told my daughter that she had not obtained enough information therefore a police check on the plate and permit number would need to be checked. This should take approx. 4 weeks. A month and a half go by and Allstate advise us that the plate and permit number do not match and also the name of the driver of the vehicle are not the same. Very puzzed my husband and I had the adjuster e-mail us the pictures of the vehicle that apparently hit my daughter. We also sent my daughter the pictures via e-mail. My daughter advised after viewing picture that this is definitely not the vehicle that hit her. She then noticed the plate number on the vehicle did not match. Allstate had made a mistake somewhere down the line and when this was brought to there attention they passed the buck and no one would take the blame. Before this new info. my daughter was accused of being a liar, adjuster told me I should not belieive everything my daughter tells me, also adjuster very rude stating " you are not getting a dime out of us " . At one time adjuster hung up on my daughter because of her frustration. This has been going on for 4 and a half months and my daughter is still not settled and this is May 24th today. She has one way insurance and cannot settle until Allstate has proof of insurance for the third party. Also to add further insult to injury my daughter asked adjuster to check to see if her van is driveable until settled, and she was informed that yes it is driveable for short distances. Van was dropped off at my daughter residents in Montreal on the street. Vehicle would not start and driver of tow truck told my daughter to call CAA and they could boost. it. Tow truck driver left vehicle sideways on street. With a few hours my daughter incurred a $150.00 parking ticket. When CAA arrived vehicle would not start with a boost. My daughter then call Allstate and it was discovered that the battery had been disconnected. She then call CAA back to have Van boosted. This was in late March and weather was still cold, she realized the heater would not work due to accident. When she called Allstate to pick up vehicle they told her she would have to make arrangements to have van brought to Allstate and pay for it. This has been an absolute nightmare and the worst thing is the attitude we are recieving and the lack of respect. We are the insured and we pay money every month to pay for our insurance and when we need it we are treated like garbage. I am disgusted with the way my daughter and I have been treated and at this point do not know where to turn.
