Allarearoofing Lots of talk but little resolution Virginia Beach, Virginia |

They started work a month after they said they would and did a fast, shoddy job. The bulk of the roof was fine but the finish work aroung the edges is a joke with many places for water and critters to get in. Allarearoofing did come back to fix all of the missing drip edge they left off and to reattach a vent pipe to the house, but they did not address the infiltration issues. Probably because the day they finally showed up to fix the problems it was getting dark around 4:30 and they did not arrive until 2:30. When I made an appointment to meet the foreman after the jobwas complete I drove 6 hours to meet a guy who did not call or show up. I called the office and the owner said I should send pictures. I said I did not drive 6 hours to send pictures. The owner's response was a very sarcastic reply that he was sorry I lived so far from my vacation house, not that he was sorry that his employees did not show up. As if it was my fault. The foreman arrived the next day and he admitted it was shabby work and that Allarea was no longer using this subcontractor and that he had received other complaints about the same subcontractor. I pointed out about 10 serious deficiencies in the roofing job and he agreed that they were problems and that allarea would take care of the issues. He did not, however write a single thing down. I got the feeling he was just going through the motions to keep me quiet. Anyway when they finally arrived to fix the work it is no surprise that they did not do most of it, because the foreman probably forgot what was required by this time. Another interesting thing about this job was that after the roof was pulled off they discovered that additional work was necessary on the front porch roof and that they could not proceed unless I paid one half of the additional $3400 they were going to charge me for some really minor work. Frank, the owner said that Virginia law required 50% down before he could proceed and he could do nothing about it. He did however proceed when I advised him I would pay the $3400 but I would not give him 50% down as I was intending to meet at the house aat the completion of the job. Virginia has no such law. It was a lie. I could go on and on but you get the idea. Run away from these guys. The owner talks a great talk but his guys do not back it up at all and every time something goes wrong it is never Allareas fault. |
