Alamo Car Rental Upgrade scam, Damage Lies, Hidden Charges Los Angeles, California |
27th of Jun, 2011 by User782379 |
I rented an Alamo car through Travelocity. The quoted amount for the "Dodge Caravan or similar" was $370.85 for the week and $108.40 for taxes and fees. When I got to the rental office they pulled up a Suburban which I thought was what they considered "similar." They slid the contract over and asked if I wanted insurance which I of course waived, and they said "initial here and here." Well I'm an idiot for not reading the contract because I guess I opted for an upgrade at $75 a day! That was an extra $600 for the week. Of course I didn't realize it until they gave me the bill as my family and I hopped on the shuttle to try to make our flights. Yeah, they handed me a bill for $1377.44!!! So instead of a $600 bill, I paid almost $800 more! To top it off, the lackey who gave me a bill pointed to some scratches on the left rear bumper and I told him that it must have been there becuase I didn't hit anything and NO ONE walked the vehicle with me to confirm the condition. Of course all this happened as I was trying to get on the shuttle. So...there wasn't much I could do about the bill, they hit my credit card already. But....surprise, surprise, yesterday I get a letter from Alamo saying they are making a claim against my insurance for damage to the LEFT FRONT bumper! Unbelievable So, they are a scam, a scam and should be avoided at all costs. |

Did you dispute the damage? That sounds like what happened to me on a vacation to Maui. They said there was a dent in the roof and we did nothing but drive around the city. I am sure they are trying to rip us off. When I called them, they had no information about the damage, like size, estiminates and I was very concerned. It would be like giving them a blank check if I give them my insurance info. Tell me what happended to you. |
