AFLAC AFLAC Short Term Disability Denied Claim Internet, Arizona |
15th of Jun, 2011 by User292235 |
I pay a monthly premium for AFLAC Short Term Disability. I have had this policy for a year and a half. I emailed my local Rep in February and told her that I was expecting and due in July. She replied with "as soon as the doctor writes you a note to stay home from work due to your "disability" you will fill out the forms and send in." I was pulled from work last week by my DR because of PIH, Swelling, and Pre Eclampsia. My DR filled out EVERYTHING with detailed reason as to why I am on Modified bedrest. My AFLAC rep. told me to drop it all off. She looked it all over and said it looked good and that it would take a week for the Claim to be processed and then I would get a check for the full amount of claim before the baby is born. (within 3 weeks).I log on to ALFAC and see that my Claim was denied. My local Rep told me to call the 800 # and speak to a Rep. I called and the Rep on the phone said that because I am not yet hospitalized they won't cover it. No where in the policy does it say that you have to be hospitalized! I have been back and fourth with my local Rep trying to get answers and I am getting no where. Come to find out, this seems to be a common problem for people who are paying into these policies!! |

I am going through the exact same thing with my insurance. I was told before I even filled out paperwork that as long as the dr deemed me disabled then my claim would be excepted. I too have PIH and am on bedrest. Claim denied...dr filled it out very thoroughly they need more medical documtation. WTH been fighting with them for weeks. |

I used to sell AFLAC Insurance and I have to say this doesn't sound right at all. The only type of disability that requires hospitalization for a payout to occur is the VIP or voluntary indemnity policy. With that said most of the AFLAC short term disability insurance policies sold are in fact supposed to supplemental to an existing policy so if you are eligible for one you are eligible for the other simple as that. What concerns me most is the timing that you mentioned the Short term disability policies carry a minimum wait time of two weeks for a first pay out the schedule then goes out from to a full six month wait period depending on what you selecting at the sign up for the policy. So a three week wait time is just unfeasible as this is not an option offered. If I were you I would take a good look at your policy and the options you selected to ensure that your representative is advising you correctly (although I doubt that they are most insurance agents are ex-used car salesmen who know virtually nothing about finance same is true for financial advisers as well.) If you have surpassed the required wait time for your policy I suggest you contact them again and tell them that if the matter is not handled satisfactorily you will be contact the insurance administrator for your state (Their contact information should be readily available on your state government's internet site). This threat usually gets those people off their butt to start moving if only because the fine the administrator's office would place to there company would be far greater than that of your claim. Hope this Helps and next time you buy an insurance policy be sure to ask the agent about their educational background most of them are idiots. |

I am off on short term disability for a stress fracture in my foot...I have been off since October 4th...my AFLAC rep told me the same thing...turn everything in and I will get it processed...then after a week or so he said I was approved and needed to know my annual salary...I waited and waited by the mailbox...finally yesterday...November 17th...I get a letter stating that the policy covers injury, death or dismemberment...and that my stress fracture on my foot is not an injury...someone please tell me what it is then...I am so disappointed in how AFLAC is treating me. I am shopping around because they definetely don't deserve my business or my free advertisement to friends in family...now they will get the kind of advertisement they don't want...negative...negative...negative...

About nine months ago during open registration at my place of employment AFLAC put on their Dog and Pony show about what great supplemental health insurance they were and how they would help pay your bills, etc. What AFLC doesn't bother to tell you is that they make filing a claim that they will accept as difficult as possible. They have already denied a perfectly legitimate claim from me. I was looking into filing a claim for my wife, who was recently injured at work, when I discovered that AFLAC expects you to provide their claim form to the physical while you are being treated for the accident. So while you are in the middle of an emergency you are expected to stop, logon to the AFLAC website, sign in, download and print the claim form. Perhaps AFLAC thinks you should download and a keep a copy of their accident claim form on your person at all times in the event that you might have an accident sometime in the future. Most of us don't have time to make an appointment with an attending physician after an accident to have them fill out an accident claim form, and most physicians are too busy treating the patient to take time to fill out AFLAC's accident claim form. Is this a criminal action? Sadly no, but it goes beyond unethical. I understand that AFLAC is in business to make a profit, and I am sure they do quite well by making it as difficult as possible for it's customers to file a claim. They might want to add the requirement that the accident form be signed with the blood of a virgin, during the dark of the moon. The board of directors should be all over that idea. Anything to sweeten the bottom line and up those bonus dollars. |

Of course they didn't pay, AFLAC is nothing but a bunch of scum out to steal every dime they can get. The best you can do is file a complaint with your State insurance Commissioner, and the BBB in Columbus, Georgia.
Do not re-new your policy with these dirt bags, and spread the word about these liars. |
