716Services Scam, Harassing phone calls, imitating law office, imitating an investigator, threatened with court appearances Buffalo, New York |

My husband (fiancee at the time) was contacted at work by this company and was asked if he would like to purchase magazines at a discounted price. He then met with a salesrep while at work and purchased a few subscriptions. What a mistake! We never received any magazines, just bills so he called to cancel and was told that he could not do so. What company does not allow you to cancel, even if you have to pay some sort of cancellation fee? But here we were and we hadn't even received ANYTHING! We quickly realized that this was a scam and decided they would not be getting a dime from us. Then the harrassing phone calls began. We would be called and screamed at, called "stupid" as well as a number of profanities and threatened with legal action. Then we got phone calls from someone alleging to work for a law office representing 716 Services but the number they gave connected you with the same automated menu that you get when you call 716 Services, interesting. We contacted the NYS Attorney General and were advised to submit a report to them as well as a "Cease Communications" letter to 716 Services. We did both of these things. 716 Services began calling my cell phone and when I asked them how they got the number they told me my fiancee had given it to them (yeah, right!). I told them to NEVER call my number again and the woman screamed at me, at work, on MY phone. Almost a year later, my (now) husband and I were returning from a family vacation, boarding the plane, when he received a phone call from a man whosaid he was an investigator...couldn't tell us of what...and that he saw that we were on vacation and even knew what state we were in. SCARY! We called him out and hung up the phone. Then in response to our letter to the attorney general we received a "contract" that my husband apparently signed agreeing to all this nonsense. The contract was a photocopy and very obviously cut and pasted from what my husband put his name on and where he provided his email address. It also had a spot where THEY had written in what magazines he was requesting, not in his handwriting and not the magazines he would EVER order (my husband is not the typically "sporty" guy, he would never order "Field and Stream"!) The signature was also forged. Since then my husband has received phone calls at work, phone calls to his boss, and a letter to his boss requesting that his wages be garnished. Luckily his boss knows better! We are at our wits end. The latest happened just last month (this all began over three years ago!) when my husband received yet another phone call at work from the "investigator" telling him that he had missed his court date. He just laughed, again told him to stop calling, and hung up but we don't know what else to do. This is HARRASSMENT especially when three years ago we sent them the Cease Communications letter as advised by the state attorney general's office. I just hope someone out there realizes that these people need to be stopped and helps out those of us who were unfortunate enough to be scammed and harrassed by them. |
