What seems to be a $15 criminal record history search, on 123nc.com turned out to be a $345 dollar scam. I went to 123nc.com based off an advertisement to get anyone including yours or your babysitters criminal history report. so I proceeded to read terms and conditions put my credit card in clicked the link to agree to terms. Put my name in searched for record it found like 1000's if entry's in my state for the name but I looked for my birth date on the list and find the records that belong to me and I view them to see what the listing was even pertaining to. This particular screen where all the records come up does not have any thing saying anything on that page cost any money, and when u click on any of the links there is no warning as to anything being bought. Before u know it just checking one single persons criminal history check can leave u with a $345 dollar bill once you hit the x tab to close out the screen. Without warning or anything telling you, you are spending money. I have tryed to contact the company and explain the situation thinking that maybe this is a common problem and can be remedied. All I get back from the company is a stupid email denying my request and sending me the terms and conditions page. While I agreeably checked the box I did not agree to pay $345 dollars for a records check I was supposed to pay only $15 for . The website clearly makes use of deceptive advertising practices By telling people they can search for there babysitters criminal history for 15$ per name search then goes to tell the person that it us an additional $15 for per Case details. But nowhere does it explain what a case detail all entails. This information is on the first screen where u put your credit info in Then the second screen is the actuall search criteria screen which can be confusing due to all the search field instructions but i read and try to interpret what they are trying to say about how to search nAmes. Finally you put your name in and search. This puts us in the third screen in which you can not exit for fear of having to pay an additional name search. But thus screen displays all records with the name you entered and tells u the record county place and a birth date and a citation number. So u find the name u are looking for and click on the citation number and it comes up with a 4th screen that just has a disposition and charge dates on it no details past that though. So u close the screen out it and it closes the pop up window well I had 22 citation numbers which is all included in my criminal history and in order to see any information that might be even construed as a criminal record search You must click on that $15 dollar link that say no where on that page nor when you click it that it's gonna cost you $15. The BBB and other consumer sites including this one have had complaints about this very problem of people being ripped off to extreme amounts of money for what's supposed to be a $15 dollar check. BTW goto your local courthouse for record check they give you disposition and charges all for a small fee usally around 5-25$ |

I got the exact same scam from 123nc.com. You are never told you are being charged
for merely looking to see if this is the right person. I got charged $360 for a $15 search.
They claim they will search all 100 counties in North Carolina for $15. You are never
shown a review of your purchase. You are never sent a copy of your purchase. You
cannot do anything until you give up your credit card details. VISA would not give me
a chargeback, but my bank manager did. This is purposely designed to trick people.
I wrote the Attorney General of NC and sued Brett Martin in New Hanover County small
claims court. He has been doing this for at least six years now and there are many
complaints on the Internet. This is Castle Branch Inc., 1815 Sir Tyler Dr., Wilmington,
NC. Take them to small claims court. Write to the Attorney General. These people are
professional crooks who design a trick website to defraud you.
