I was contacted by The Lease Brokers the beginning of November 2011- They saw my car listed on Craigslist for sale. I had in the ad that I couldn't afford payments on my 15k mile 09 Chevy Traverse. They said they take over payments. I did research on BBB and searched the internet and found nothing unusual. The company sounded Legit. I also got a sample agreement and it looked ok too.
After talking with an employee and emailing for a couple weeks. I agreed to go forward. I had to bring my loan down by $5,500 for them to assume payments. I paid that amount down.
William "Bill" Buckley came to my place of business and picked up my 09 Chevy November 15, 2011. I was told that he would send me the 'contract' within a few days and that he'd get insurance on it asap and would use his dealer plates. They would find someone to lease it or buy it.
I had much trouble after that in contacting their business. It took days for a return call and I was nervous not having a contract.I was told around 11/22 that they had insurance and I could drop mine. I did. I still had no contract.
I finally got a contract the end of December dated 12/17- even though they took possession 11/15.a BIG red flag was that it was not signedby Mr. Buckley. I was not happy- but didsign it and mailed it back. I tried to contact Mr. Buckley many times to get 'my' copy with their signature. My last contact with him was via email on 1/9/11 He said he needed to get my the signed copy. I asked him to mail it. I wish I had gone and gotten it after the fact.
During December-I was able to refinance and lower the payments by $250/month to help them out.Making the new payment $523. The first payment due 1/22/11.
On 1/19/11- I received a notice from the bank saying they needed proof of insurance. Another RED flag! I contacted Bill but never heard back.
On 1/25- I saw that my first payment was not paid at the bank. Another RED flag. I immediatly called my insurance and added insurance to the vehicle.
On 1/26- I tried email and voicemail and physically went to their address on Broadway It was basically an empty show-room with just a desk and one car. It was locked.
The phone number goes to a recording saying mailbox is full. His cell phone says 'out of area'/not available.I have contacted the building owner to alert them as well. I have filed a BBB report/complaint. I am contacting their former address property owners at 511 Crossing Drive, Lafayette.
HELP! I have no car. They have been driving it for free since 11/15/2010. They had no insurance. I have no idea where it is- what condition it's in. I tried to file a police report, they said since I gave him the keys it's not technically stolen at this point. I am going to file another report in my residence county.
Also- my insurance company says it's not covered for stolen since I wasn't in possession of the car when I re-instated the insurance.
