Board of Trustees Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) David W. Whitehead, Chairman allowing bullying of women adult students who 'challenge' the other |

Tri-C Board of Trustees currently has a Tri-C BULLYING problem - that they are not handling in a professional manner - or at all. The 'rules' on student BULLYING, in Ohio colleges, have to come from the Board of Trustees per the Ohio State Board of Regents. Currently the Tri-C Board of Trustees doesn't recognize 'bullying' as a Tri-C problem - it's just 'prejudice' if you don't like being treated badly by a black instructor; insulted, and demeaned as 'not worthy' of the Tri-C educational experience. And you can't file a police report on this as the bullying is without physical bruising - it's verbal, emotional, and virtual - totally non-visual; can't take a cell phone photo. White students are being harassed by black & diversity students when they IRK them in class; apparently studying - as a way of besting someone - is too hard at Tri-C. Bullying is a way of life at Tri-C, a classroom 'phenomenon' encouraged by the President & Dean of Student Affair's Office; if the white student doesn't like it, she's just 'prejudiced' and 'erratic' - or some other 'academic' term. Studying is not encouraged; the black/minority/diversity bully with the power wins. Adult white students - particularly at Tri-C Main Campus in the Health Sciences Technology Programs - are being bullied in classes when the black, diversity, and other students in the class feel threatened - as a way of getting the student doing better on the tests to drop the course - to make the curve move up a grade with a little 'outside' the curve help. Even the Dean of Student Affairs gets into it by sending mass certified mailings to the bullied student's PO BOX, detailing that the woman student is/was 'disruptive' and 'threatening' - no adjectives are spared in the battle, no pejorative too harsh. And certified mail is a costly way to handle class 'dynamics' problems - you could hire another instructor, or purchase a whole new set of teaching CDs for the 2000s, with that money. But the money isn't spent wisely at Tri-C, and most of it doesn't 'trickle' down to the class materials & instructor hiring levels - it's gone with copying student emails to send to Cleveland Municipal Court, spending hours writing letters to Cleveland Municipal Court about a white Honors student who doesn't know her place, or with consultant fees - court filings and political publicity. Nonacademic nonsense = why President Thornton had a vote of 'no-confidence' in 2010; the extra-curriculars. The Surgical Technology Program last Fall had a woman student being called a 'bit*h-to-be-slapped' if she dared say a word in a class review session on December 2. This went on for about 45 minutes, and the instructor said NOTHING about things degenerating to this 'low' level - he was afraid to as President Thornton wants the minority/diversity students to have every chance of saying something (expressing themselves in every genre) in class - no word is off-limits, no concept, no question, and no threats to a non-black, non-diversity, non-past flunked student too mean. Every minority student appears to be minding every other student's business - to know every other student's grade somehow. So after taking it for weeks, this woman program-accepted 'registered' student then complained in emails to Beth Stokes - as is the USUAL way of getting ahold of Beth Stokes (Surgical Technology Program Director). But she wasn't SUPPOSED TO EMAIL about this very bad dynamics situation, so in mid-December, she was finally dismissed for the emails about this b-episode - and the multiple other episodes of bullying that had been going on since the 'bad dynamics' situation started in August. Her crime: she had emailed about black students going at her, other students going at her, and especially the black clinical instructor going at her - and you can't do that at Tri-C; black problems have to be handled over the phone or fax so that there is no record of the problems. The student had tried phoning & faxing the problem (to Beth Stokes & Karen Miller), tried scheduling with Ms. Luvenia during office hours - who just kept her waiting in the CCF hall for an hour, and tried contacting President Jerry Sue Thornton in the end. No one directly answers their phone at Tri-C, and Beth Stokes took off for about 2 weeks in November (to walk the Appalachian Trail apparently) without any notice on Blackboard, email, or her phone. The only thing that this emailing got her - this trying to document the problem & get help - was a dismissal from Tri-C (and she had been Honors level before this course), and the filing of telecom harassment charges in Cleveland Municipal Court. From Honor student to criminal in weeks - the Tri-C 'promise.' The phones in Karen Miller's office are manned by part-time students - they can't directly intervene or 'handle' anything bullying-wise. Faxing at Tri-C - is a f-joke as a problem-solver, the faxes are 'group faxes,' and you have to go pick up the fax to read it. Dean Karen Miller never picks up the phone or a fax. Talking with Beth Stokes for hours of class time, and Karen Miller for an hour with a black instructor - who told the woman student that it would be best if she were not to 'say a word' lest she monopolize class time from a black student - did nothing but polarize the problem; administration vs. white student who won't acknowledge the black superiority in a time of the Obama Administration - a white student who didn't know 'her place' in the back of the Tri-C classroom bus. The woman student just 'irked' the other students & Ms. Luvenia Lewis of CCF (black clinical nurse instructor) - and she had to be 'handled.' It was jealousy, irritation that the course materials, CDs, & instructional videos were out-of-date, with many errors, and that the class instruction - by Ms. Luvenia Lewis & John Davis - was generally poor in not explaining concept things. The woman did offer to tutor, to group study, and in the end sent around her notes and cheat sheets - better than getting beaten up in the parking lot or outside the building/campus at 2900 Community College Avenue. But that didn't stop the Luvenia 'F' and dismissal - she couldn't do a practical with Ms. Luvenia after months of being harassed in class by her, and the Luvenia practical involved moving a 300 lb OR bed up and down the Clinic OR halls. No heavy object moving was required of the black students - who were 'favorites' with Ms. Luvenia - bonding on the basis of race, similar backgrounds and linguistical ebonics. Moving OR beds around the CCF OR halls was not a task on the 'practical' skill sheet for this class, but it was amusing for a black woman to watch, and could have injured the student that 'irked' her - it was intentional baiting (get her mad so that she makes mistakes) and cruel - but ok with the Board of Trustees. Actually the woman's shoulder fractured after this episode with a minor fall - she had a low bone density and was only supposed to be moving 25 lbs at most - by the course 'scope of practice' that was ALL that was supposed to be required. But ALL 'rules' were broken for the white students - two of which had to move OR beds with heavy electrical equipment in the bases - reverse prejudice in 2011 - both were happy to flunk in the end ie no more furniture moving. But to get this situation filed as 'telecommunications harassment' of Tri-C, by the white student, in Cleveland Municipal Court, involved pulling the President Thornton community power 'string' - misrepresenting that the woman calling/emailing in January 2011 to file a grade dispute was email harassment (instead of college policy & within the deadlines to file a grade dispute), and lying about the situation as to who was the 'victim.' President Thornton is not the 'victim' here. Cleveland Municipal Court judges are mostly 'black,' and only too willing to call a white girl a 'harasser' if she tries to stop being bullied - white is always 'wrong' in Cleveland these days - nothing is about being 'fair.' White students at Tri-C are there to be bullied, harassed, made to move heavy furniture until they fracture, and in general to be insulted daily for something real or imagined; white is trash at Tri-C under President Thornton and DOSA Karen Miller. Further this is not Ohio state law, about emailing while a registered student being a criminal offense if the college doesn't want to hear about the class/instructor/course problems - but the Prosecutor didn't care - black vs white in Cleveland - advantage goes to the black. This 'case' filing was about pleasing President Thornton; every other college/university President in the Cleveland area has to handle their course/instructor/class problems on campus - not so for Jerry Sue. This court filing is public spectacle for black power - nothing less and nothing more - totally ridiculous & a wasting of city monies for Tri-C course problems. Many courses at Tri-C are not worked through as to Incomplete, Withdrawal, Drop and other options to finish the course - no one bothers to sit down and put together the course options (or the course materials) - this course didn't have an INCOMPLETE option as no one bothered to develop it - too busy filing 'telecom' harassment against the student asking for an INCOMPLETE. Per the Ohio State Attorney's office, colleges can arbitrarily restrict certain student's from emailing, on the basis of race or any other adjective, but it is not within the the city/state purview to enforce college email policies in Ohio - this is the college's job as the college only has to 'block' the student's email with a mouse click - tell the IT Administrator to remove that student from Blackboard - and dismiss the student with an email notice. Every other college/university in the Cleveland area has to just cancel the student's Blackboard, and block the student's email, if they don't want to hear about things - but this is generally tantamount to making a student flunk out as no one can function without email at any college - you have to pick up assignments on email and email the questions, problems, and assignments back. Most college classes require heavy email/Blackboard use these days - including those at Tri-C. So restricting the white student's email privileges was to get the woman to drop/withdraw or flunk out; the FLUNK OUT would eventually happen. Nothing was ever 'fixed' by Tri-C to improve the 'dynamics' things, and the black clinical instructor - Ms. Luvenia Lewis - at Cleveland Clinic started the bullying by going at the woman student for existing - that she dared 'say a word' or 'ask a question' that had not been BLACK pre-approved. Black students meanwhile, were encouraged to ask any question, no matter how stupid, and to monopolize the class with any discussion, take extra time on tests, and have extra practice sessions on Tuesdays by invitation only. In October 2010, the woman 'bitch' had been 'jacked-up' in a Cleveland Clinic OR for doing too well on a midterm - a 92? The other students couldn't compete with that, felt that she knew things from her prior studies, and were just jealous - wanted her to get a 'zero' on the quiz that Ms. Luvenia didn't collect from her. In fact, the course/class materials were not that difficult for any black, or diversity/minority, student to do at least a 'B' on with just average studying - if they tried. It just was jealousy, laziness, and that the students were encouraged by Dean Karen Miller's office, Beth Stokes, and Ms. Luvenia to go after this woman student until she dropped - that was the 'idea' per Shari in Karen Miller's office - DROP OR BE DISMISSED FOR EMAILS. There has to be another way to handle bullying that to have the victim charged with telecom harassment charges in Municipal Court after trying to email & document the problems. President Thornton has to restrict the use of 'bitch,' and other derogatory words, comments & threats in classtime. The placing of students on probation by the Dean of Student Affairs - Karen Miller - has to have another reason than the student trying to finish a course when everyone hates her. The money never is returned for dropping at Tri-C. It's not 'prejudice' that a serious 'personality conflict' develops between a white student and a black instructor - happens with a lot of 'diversity' situations at every college/university. If you don't speak Chinese and the professor has a heavy accent, if you can't read the instructor's handwriting, or if you just can't communicate with the instructor - there are many reasons that students have to be allowed to drop a class without prejudice, harassment or being penalized in Municipal Court as a 'criminal.' But the Tri-C Board of Trustees has to step up to the BULLYING bat, dismiss charges against any student for trying to exist and get their final test results, and encourage better attitudes at Tri-C - even at the high levels of the Dean of Student Affairs & the President's Office. Tri-C needs to get back to academics and Honors - not court filings that a woman student couldn't take the harangues and emailed - that's ridiculous, stupid, and certainly not good example of conflict management. |
